How to Sauna at Henbant

Price £10 / person / Session

We love you to get involved at Henbant, be part of the team, have real world experiences or more to the point do it yourself so heres how…

  1. Get wood from the trailer in the car park or by the farm buildings.

  2. Light the stove – Fire lighters and fire logs available from the farm if there are none down here– The sauna takes about 1hr to really get to temperature. A good sauna temperature is 70 – 90^c. Once it is hot splashing a spoon of water on the top stones makes it hotter.

  3. Get your kit off (swimsuits encouraged) and get in. If you shower Before the sauna dry yourself as Dry skin sweats faster than moist.

  4. Look after yourself if you feel too hot get out and cool down. Drink Lots. If you have any medical conditions or you are pregnant think about if a sauna is appropriate.

  5. Children can not regulate their body temperature as well as adults so should be supervised at all times.

  6. Please be considerate of others – don’t do anything disgusting in the sauna and please give it a wipe down before and after use.

  7. Cooling down: A cold shower is lovely or feel free to dunk yourself in a barrel – the barrels can get skanky so tip it out and refill it before use if it looks dirty. Make sure you can get in and out of the barrels safely they are a bit awkward but very satisfying

  8. Whipping yourself and others with birch branches – this is not really a thing but do try making yourself a ‘Vasta’ – cut about 10 birch branches about 35cm long – strip the bark from one and use to tie the others together. Dip it in the water bowl and tap your self all over with it in the sauna, you can also put it to your face and breathe through the leaves. It smells lovely and is very relaxing.
